Shiori 2.0 reviewer beta
This beta is provided for testing Shiori Helper for Firefox and Chrome. Shiori is a bookmark app for Markdown folders and Pinboard.
Install
- Unzip the download, move Shiori to Applications, then launch it. Launching registers the local bridge used by the helper. If you move the app again, relaunch it.
- In Preferences → Sources, add an empty, disposable Markdown folder. No Pinboard account is needed.
- Install the helper supplied through the Firefox or Chrome review process. The helper listings are awaiting publication.
Test bookmark capture
- Open this page in Firefox 140 or later, or Chrome 120 or later. Select the sample sentence below.
- Invoke Shiori’s New Bookmark global shortcut. The default is Control–Shift–Space; check Preferences → General for your configured shortcut. Approve any required macOS permission prompts.
- Check that the bookmark dialog contains this page’s URL, title and selected sentence in Notes. Save to the disposable Markdown folder.
- Select the second sample sentence and invoke the shortcut again. Existing notes should remain, with the new selection appended.
- Quit and relaunch Shiori, then repeat capture to test reconnection. Quit and relaunch the browser, then capture again.
Shiori Helper adds selected text to a bookmark’s notes.
A second selection is appended without replacing existing notes.
Set the browser being tested as the macOS default to see its Connected status in Preferences → General. Firefox requires the helper for URL, title and selected-text capture. Chrome can capture URL and title without it; selected-text capture requires the helper. No additional browser shortcut is needed.
Internal browser pages and pages that restrict script access may prevent selected-text capture. Use an ordinary HTTPS page, such as this one.
This is a beta, separate from the production update feed. Use disposable bookmarks for review.
