Shiori Helper privacy policy
Information accessed
When you request bookmark capture, Shiori Helper reads the active page’s URL and title, and selected text where the browser permits access. Selection may come from the page, accessible frames or a focused text input. Password-field selections are excluded.
Where information goes
The helper sends the requested information through browser native messaging to the locally installed Shiori app on the same Mac. It does not send bookmark content to a developer-operated server, maintain a browsing-history database or use analytics or advertising services.
Shiori uses the information to populate a bookmark. Where you save that bookmark depends on the source you choose: a Markdown folder or your Pinboard account. If you choose a cloud-synced folder, its storage provider controls that synchronization. The helper itself does not save bookmarks to Pinboard or request tag recommendations.
Permissions
Native messaging connects the helper to Shiori. Tab access provides the current page’s URL and title. Scripting and HTTP/HTTPS site access allow selected-text capture on sites you choose; scripts run for capture requests rather than continuously monitoring browsing. Context-menu access provides the Bookmark in Shiori action. Chrome alarms allow the helper to retry its local connection after a restart.
Your controls
You can review and edit the captured information before saving. Remove captured text from Notes if you do not want to save it. Disable or uninstall the helper through your browser’s extension settings to stop its access. Manage saved bookmarks in Shiori and any storage service you use.
This policy covers the browser helper. The desktop app has separate network features, including Pinboard operations, optional tag recommendations and software updates.
